Hi all,
I have a couple of gonioporas in my tank and they were doing quite good, but one of them stopped extending suddenly. Im not sure why. The other 2 look very healthy and happy in comparison.

Gonis can randomly do things like this. Params seem good and they like Magnesium at least in mid 1300s and most people dose with manganese as well. Other factors are flow and lighting. Low -Medium lighting and reasonably strong/medium flow.

I have moved it lower in the tank, it has decent flow but not a single polyp is out of it. Where as the 2 other Goni's i have are very healthy completely extended polyps.

Patience is required I’ve found. Give it several days before any more moves and I once had one that stayed like that for a month before opening again.

Okay. Should I move it back to the original spot or leave it in it current location?

I've had established goni's close up for unknown reasons, while the other goni's and all other corals were fine. Often the goni stays closed and eventually dies, even goni's that had been in my tank for over 5 years, just close for unknown reason and stay closed. Sometimes I had luck with moving it to a different spot, sometimes not.

I have a small colony that does this. The other 3 are always open and this one is closed more than its out. I dose extra manganese and that does seem to help. I also keep magnesium, alk,and calcium a little elevated.
