I recently purchased a green gonipora from divers den on LiveAquaria. The pics showed it extending out like the example I show. It doesn’t extend far. could it be a short polyp Goni ?

I have never found a reliable source for differentiating one species from another. And colony shape for me has always been very dependent on the tank conditions. Perhaps someone has more insight, so a bump :)

Divers den is supposed to be the exact specimen you order. Maybe your lighting/parameters are different than what it was acclimated to at live Aquaria.

It’s been in my tank for 3 weeks and seems to be doing great but won’t extend like the photo it showed when I bought it

Just make sure to feed it frequently with foods like reef roids and it will be healthy

Yes it is on Gonipora, Very stubborn to get extended good water Params and target feed brine shrimp . If they retract fast they are stressed. If they pump / extend retract shortly it is feeding. Good luck

Its the standard green flowerpot version which have short extension. Placing in in path of moderate water movement and feeding it, will express its full extension and you will know if it is indeed a short stem or long stem

IME gonis and alveo can take a while to get acclimated to your tank. They also can be pretty picky where they want to be placed. Place it somewhere you think he'll like, refrain from touching it (gonis and alveos are sensitive to the oils in our hands), and leave him there for at least a week. If he doesn't extend, find another place and try again.
