Gorgonian coral

Just got this little frag of a blueberry gorgonian last night.

I can't wait until it grows in. They are gorgeous. And they are photosynthetic too.

These guys are beautiful but they are filter feeders, not photosynthetic.
"The Blueberry Gorgonian is a Filter feeder which requires strong non lateral flow and phytoplankton/zooplankton to be fed to the tank at least once per week. Due to the fact it is NON photosynthetic, it does not require special lighting."

Are they photosynthetic?
Look a lot like the nons to me....
Really hard to keep those long term, usually water quality suffers.

For those nutrients, put some macro algae in your tank. I bought some reg ogo along with that gorg.

As a general rule of thumb....photosynthetic gorgs all have brown/tan polyps. If they are anything other, say white, blue, then they are likely not photosynthetic. Irregardless of flesh color. As a for instance there are quite a few purple gorgs, some are photosynthetic some are not. The ones with tan polyps are.

After looking into a few different gorgs I found that the brighter colors are non photosynthetic. So that sound correct.

Oops, my mistake. I misread the article.

Oh well, I grow my own phytoplankton and dose every night. Plus Reef Roids twice weekly. And my PO4/NO3 runs .5 and 40-50. So shouldn't be a problem.

The guy I got it from is a friend that runs very low nutrients. I don't think he realizes this is non-photosynthetic. His is still alive somehow. I'll let him know. He broadcast feeds Reef Roids once per week.

Thanks. Someone said that some gorgs can’t be exposed to air. Is this one?

I've had good luck target feeding feather dusters and gorgs Two Little Fishies Marine Snow, rotifers and Reef Plankton a couple times a week. Good luck, they add a lot of interest and biodiversity to a tank, but will "defend" themselves as mentioned.
