Is 1200 GPH overkill for a return/overflow for a 120 gallon tank with 20 gallon sump? If it is what should I go with?

That comes to 10 x's an hour passing threw your filtration. Your good.
I would not reduce it, at all.

I have a 110 from "Red Sea". It came with a 1,800 gph return pump from the factory.

Thanks I heard it was a bit overkill for 10x but wasn't sure, what's a good return pump?

There is lots of good ones out there.
You'll get a thousand opinions!

Do you have power heads or pumps to move more water around inside your 120?

I do but couple things first. What's ur main goal? Do u want it to be quiet? How far are u pumping the water up? Where are u located as in weather wise will the added pump make u need a chiller? What's ur price range as well?

Well I like the vectras so an m1 for you. I also have a little giant 4mdq that is roughly the same gph that I can recomend as well if u don't want to hop on the D.C. Train. The mag 18 will get u 1200 as well but to me just spend the extra couple dollars and grab a vectra as the mags use a lot of energy.

To justingraham's point:

Red Sea put that 1,800 gph in mine.
It's a Sicce made for Red Sea.

So, I'm passing water threw a chiller, GFO reactor and Purigen reactor as well, with ease:)

Is the Sicce adjustable flow rate?

Is it a standard 120 gal with 2 overflows and 1"out, 3/4" in?
Or do you have a single overflow with different diameter holes at the bottom?
