Hello everyone,

My first attempt at a reef tank and a build thread so any advice is welcomed

Let's start with with my equipment:

Tank - Evolution aqua reef pro 900s with sump which is about 267 litres total.

Lighting - v2 ilumenair 900

Skimmer - bubble Magus curve 5

Powerhead - maxspect gyre xf130

Rock - D-D AquaScape Rock and caribsea life rock about 18kg

Sand - 10-15kg Samoa sand

Also have heater, return pump and auto top up.

I have set up my sump with:
Chamber 1 skimmer and heater.

Chamber 2 will be a refugium with Cheato (advice on grow lights would be appreciated)

Chamber 3 has return pump

Chamber 4 is separate for RO water top off

Planning a mixed reef tank, not sure on exact fish but will probably start with a couple of clowns

Still going through the cycle but starting to get diatoms now I've ordered a twin wier comb with twin flare nozzle and also a red sea reefer DIY jumpguard which all arrive next week so will get photos as soon as there fitted.

Tonight I've made my red sea jumpguard to save the fish and added an upgraded twin return pipe/wier for better flow, still waiting for the tank to cycle and getting lots of diatoms but leaving it to do it's thing and been patient

Nearly 3 weeks into cycling with ea pure reef balance balls. Ammonia has been about 1ppm for 2 weeks now nitrites have spiked and currently at 0.2 and nitrates have been from 5 to 25 but currently at 10 using salifert test kits. Taking a lot longer than I thought but waiting patiently as always. I've added a new grow light for my refuge whilst I wait but nothing left to do untill I can start adding things!

After about 4 weeks the tank is finally cycled Now it’s time to let the fun begin. I’ve added cuc which consist of mixed hermits and snails also 2 clownfish that all came with the tank and have been sat in a temporary tank whilst I set up this one. So far so good but I’m not the best at taking pictures yet! I also have a sailfin tang, sand sifting goby and 2 cleaner shrimp which came with the tank but I’ll leave them In My temporary tank until next week.

Any suggestions for my first corals?

new coral, what I’ve been told could be a Kenya tree coral. starting off with easy soft corals till I’m confident enough to spend more money and on the lookout at my LFS for a colourful wrasse for my next fish. Also buying corals each week I go to look

Just found this older thread and I am curious as to how your 900 is looking now. I am just in the process of setting up the same tank
