Great Barrier Reef Trip

I'll be spending a few days up in Cairns around New Years this year and want to take a trip out to see the GBR. Does anyone have any recent experience or information on the best areas to go visit to see the best parts of, sadly, what's left of the reef?

Mike, you'll see the reef is magnificent & that the reports of it's demise are not just terribly exaggerated but total propaganda.

They have liveaboard dive boats out of Cairns that are real nice for trips longer than 1 day
