If I want my green slimer to look like the picture will one frag eventually grow out like that or do I have to let the frag grow out and keep fragging the single branch?

It will branch out without pruning. How much it branches out is variable. Growth pattern depends on lighting, flow, chemistry and fragging.

If you carefully trim it as it grows you can shape it to resemble the one in the picture.
