With the legend of the sunset monti, that's where my money would have been. But it looks to be losing to the psammocora.

Hmmm.

Hypothesis: "Larger" polyp corals are more vulnerable to sweeper death then "smaller" polyped corals/ (colonies).

Smaller polyps have more polyps and each one has a sweeper, so more stingers to attack the neighbors.

"Large" and "small" reflect polyp densities between the combatants, and are relative terms in the hypothesis. :thinking-face: ;)

You could be on to something. Do they have sweepers though? I've never seen them, but then again there are a lot of things I haven't seen. Psammy is slower grower so maybe it's a high end vs low end torque thing.

I always try to sneak a peak at corals around midnight or later to see what they are doing to their neighbors when the lights go out. Some corals (Pectinia) will fight day and night but many seem to be only occasionally aggressive when "sweeping" the neighborhood for turf.

I try to be asleep at midnight. Caught this yesterday....

Will I get banned cuz it's lps?
Most SPS tend to attack with mesenterial filaments rather than actual sweeper tentacles. That is they spew their guts out and digest their opponent on the spot!!!
I enjoy the eating process, but sometimes wish the food would be in my stomach more efficiently. Would with will if it tastes bad too.
