I’m considering adding a group of 4 or 5 Flame Angels to my 450 gallon FO tank. Just wondering if anyone has done a group of dwarf angels of the same species and how they do together. I have a trio of Yellow Tangs in my reef, I’m thinking it will be like that, occasional chasing, but nothing serious. I have a Passer Angel in the FO that doesn’t tolerate shenanigans and other fish acting like an Alpha.

In a tank that size you can definitely do it. Space really helps, though even 450 won’t be enough if two, fish decide to try to murder each other. I’ve a pair of flames in my 450 and they’ve coexisted just fine. Also have a potters, lemon peel and eibli. @OrionN has done this with a larger group if memory serves.

I had a harem of 5 flame angels, not have 4 flame angels in my 320 gal tank. No problem. It is easier for the fish if you put in all females, or only 1 male in it. Regardless, in a 450 gal tank, even if you put in all males, they eventually will settle down to 1 male and the rest are females. This really stressed them out but likely all will live.
These fish are protogynous hermaphrodites, but can change back to female if there is a more dominate male.

If I get from 1.5-2 inch size they would likely all be female, and one would turn male? The larger ones I assume could already be male.

Actually in the right situation they turn male at a smaller size. This pair of mine was only about 1.5 inches but I gag them for about 1 year when they were about .75 inches. I got them from Live Aquaria as small flame angels. Keep them together in my office 65 gal tank until I decided to bring them home.
The male is the same male in my picture above. The female is the largest of the three females.

Wow, amazing tank.
Thanks for the responses. Looks like I’m definitely doing it. I have credit from an online store, just wait till they get the right sizes in.
