Hello R2R!!! We’re starting a coral farm and wanted advice... have two 48x24x12 going bare bottom and Orphek v2 lights for coral grow out.

Every system I’ve run is sand bottom.

Question: we want to run bare bottom do we just set the tanks up and drop corals in?

I know there’s a cycle with sand and rock but how does bare bottom & sump work??

Any feedback widely welcome!!

I would go live rock in the sump and maybe a remote DSB in a tank or bucket for ease of maintenance and nitrate control.
Remote fuge if your into that.
Carx would also be my go to with trace dosing.
I do not do scheduled water changes but thats another story for another time.
Check my build as I run bare bottom in my 120.

I think I found the answer, just need some Brightwell bricks from my established 120g and that should seed and provide the biological filtration
