Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh PXL_20211211_022721163.jpg

Screenshot_20211210-205422.png

I guess I raised the KH a little to fast, I'll have to dilute my ATO. The evaporation is so slow right now in the winter I tried to be scientific but it was more off a guestimate the amount off all for reef.

PXL_20211211_021456863.jpg

Pulled it out to dip it and found one of the heads behind it.

PXL_20211211_022651067.jpg

The torch is shrunken up because I had my hand in the tank to dip the hammer everything else looks okay.

Nothing came off in the dip.

Moved big batch of corals out of quarantine. My 3 cardinals still aren't playing very nice the smallest has a small amount of tail fin damage.

Threw away all my macro and have now at about 14 days and second dose of flucanzole. Not much affect yet, my GHA isn't bad but enough of it I'm battling zero nitrates for 2 months now.

Great build thread and awesome to see that you are quarantining your corals! I wish I had done that with my first build and will definitely be doing that when I move and upgrade to a larger tank. Where abouts in Roanoke are you located? I'm in NorthEast off of Williamson Road!

I'm not to far away. Yeah, mostly quarantining for fish disease but it is also nice to have time to see if any aptasia or other uglies pop up on it and I have so many hungry snails in my quarantine they immediately clean up any frags to lol.

From near disaster to disaster
PXL_20220115_152813039.jpg

2 Weeks ago, I noticed a noise coming from my overflow box that sounded similiar to water going down the emergency drain. I spent a ton of time adjusting it and finally I was trying to watch the Finale of the Expanse, so I turned the pump off and was just going to turn it back on after an hour and fool with it. Thank you Expanse because I turned my pump off and it was still making the noise it was this heater hissing and crackling. This heater was so old it was delegated to salt mixing duty, but I had to pull it out because in the winter my current heater was sturggling to stay in the low 70's by itsself.

Speaking of cold water and turning the pump off I somehow accidently turned the pump off while I was gone on my new smart outlet while I was gone during the week. Fortunately, still had the wavemakers to create flow but water hit room temperature (62) was off for about 3 days I think, finished off my beautiful orange hammer its currently almost totally deatached from skeleton, green birds nest lost most off its polyps but might recover and orange Monti cap has lost some flesh. Other corals and all fish seem to have recovered.

Nothing to see here definitely no Dinos with splotches off Cyano.

Not really worried about the Cyano I've had small splotches off it for a while but the Dinos are new :(. It's mostly contained to the sand bed so going to try to Siphon out as much as I can. My phosphates have crept up a little but still no nitrates even with auto feeder going off twice a day and manual feeding twice a day.

I dosed some of the Aquaforest life source mud and I'm slowly turning the temperature up to 81. I've let it it run at a cool 75 over the winter and I've heard warmer water can help manage Dinos.

New frags placed in tank from quarantine. I have had zero luck using superglue to mount frags to rock so used some 2 part putty for the first time.
PXL_20220318_201947261.jpg
The green Monti I thought was dead for sure came back to life and gas been mounted. Also on the rock around it are a couple of different birds nests.

dang you ORA and your giant plastic frag plugs.

Speaking of ORA my ORA Micronesian torch has grown to 4 heads.

My first acroporas showing very little growth in the 3 months I've had them but otherwise going very strong.

What I thought was Dinos is actually golden diatoms or scientific name chrysophytes. Glad I spent 15$ on a toy microscope before spending $400 on a UV.

Reefer 250 final update

Well much like my marriage my corals have done less than flourish under neglect.
Also much like my marriage I'm not sure i could have actually prevented the problems by being around more.
I had a rather aggressive variant of algae some sort of matting algae that was hard to pull.

Most of my Stony corals never thrived. And one of my OG corals a pink torch that had about 12 polyps is down to two. No idea why that guy slowly spit out heads.

I'm getting ready to break the tank down so I threw in the towel and did 2 doses of algaecide/vibrant and a black out a few weeks ago.

Fish are doing good. 2 clowns, 2 starry gobbies, 2 court jester gobies, 1 yellow tang, 1 sapphire damsel. The yellow tang will go to a new home the rest temporarily to a fluval flex 32.5 at my parents.

Sorry to hear that!!! Hopefully your tank can recover and flourish better than it ever has!!
