As a new member I thought I'd introduce my tank. Its been running for nearly a year now and had its fair share of issues, mainly getting velvet after a few months and wiping the tank out. Ran the fallow period and recently re-stocked, now dealing with cyano but let's take a step back........
From the beginning-
Equipment + Media-
Waterbox Peninsula 25
ZKSJ 1800 return pump
Jebeo slw10 powerhead
ReefPrint media box in chamber 2
ReefPrint RFG
200w heater + controller
AutoAqua ATO
AI Prime 16HD
BM MiniQ skimmer
Caribsea rock and Fiji pink live sand
Maxspect bio spheres
Filter floss
Nyos carbon
Nyos phosi-ex (when needed)
Current tenants-
2x Clowns
Purple firefish
Mandarin
Randall's shrimp
Emerald crab
Various snails
Ran a fishless cycle and got everything setup and running well, originally had 2x Snowflake clowns, a royal gramma, yellow watchman and 2x cardinals. Looking back that was too much stock, nutrient wise the tank was coping and everything seemed fine but suddenly the gramma started scratching off the sand and within 5 days I lost them all.
Hard to tell what, but either velvet or ich had got in. Ran the tank fallow for well over 80+ days, just stocking with corals and doing weekly water changes.
With the fallow period well out the way and the tank ticking along nicely, I done a deep clean and restocked.......
That's rings us up to almost present day. Added 2x Clowns, a mandarin and a purple firefish. Within a few weeks I've had a cyano outbreak. Not sure if it was the deep clean that set it off or adding a bio load again (and quickly, all fish added at same time). Working my way through solutions and problem solving, I'll add a picture of its worst state, better than that now.
It's maintenance day tomorrow so I'll get some fresh up to date pictures and add them in aswell.
I'm off for a lie down after typing that
