UNS 90LA build

Hey everyone!

Starting a new tank build, and I'll be documenting the entire process here from day one.

The tank is a UNS 90LA paired with an AI Blade Grow 30", and I'll start posting photos as everything arrives over the next few weeks.

The goal is to build a relatively easy-to-maintain reef while I'm in medical school. Rather than packing it with corals, I want the focus to be on a small collection of unique fish with a few corals and invertebrates.

Current livestock plan:

• Pair of clownfish. I was originally planning on a pair of Oman clownfish, but I've heard the tank may be a little too small, so I'm still deciding.
• Yasha Goby + Randall's Pistol Shrimp
• Mandarin Dragonet
• Possibly a Swissguard Basslet
• Talbot's Damsel (I had one in my previous tank and absolutely loved its personality and colors.)

Coral/Invertebrate plan:

• Bubble Tip Anemone
• Crocea Clam
• Montipora
• A few Rock Flower Anemones
• A small isolated island of GSP

My goal is to keep the system as simple as possible. I'd like to rely primarily on regular water changes instead of dosing for as long as I can.

Current equipment:

• UNS 90LA
• AI Blade Grow 30"
• Standard UNS return pump
• MiniQ skimmer
• Inkbird temperature controller
• 100W BRS titanium heater

I still have a lot to figure out regarding equipment and livestock, so I'm definitely open to suggestions.

Update!

The tank has arrived and I've finally started filling it up! Please excuse the mess—I'm in the middle of moving, so everything is a bit chaotic at the moment.

Next on the list is cable management, followed by getting the tank cycled.

One thing I noticed is that the return pump doesn't seem to provide enough flow to the far end of the tank. Would the solution be to upgrade to a higher-flow return pump, or add a wavemaker?

Rather than replying on the return pump for flow, consider adding some circulation pumps instead

I ended up having 2 nero 3s and a hygger gyre by the end of it for flow

I just set this tank up as our second room divider tank...
If you want my opinion from experience change out the pump and get a wavemaker. The TMC Reef Pump Compact 500 DC Aquarium Pump is a great upgrade and I use a Hygger wavemaker but it's really personal preference.
Love the tank!
