Do you have pictures of your pump placements when you where running three circulation pumps.

You can see all three here.

Hi everyone,

I could use some advice. My Black Ocellaris has been swimming a little oddly. It'll swim up and down the tank, and sometimes it cruises along the surface at a slight diagonal. I've hard quirky/weird clownfish before. So I'm wondering if this is just normal clownfish behavior or if it's something I should be concerned about.

It's eating well and has a great appetite. My other clownfish is swimming completely normally. I attached a video. The microbubbles are from the skimmer breaking in. The small particles you see are Ocean Nutrition frozen brine shrimp. He just ate without any issues. I added food to see if he would have any drive.

Does this seem like typical clownfish behavior, or is there something I should be watching for?

Thanks, y'all!

This one in particular has been acting kinda funny for some time now, so I'm wondering if this is just normal clownfish behavior or if it's something I should be concerned about.

A couple of notes. The microbubbles are from the skimmer breaking in. The small particles you see are Ocean Nutrition frozen brine shrimp. He just ate without any issues. I was testing for food drive.

Some more info. I changed 10L of water on Friday. These were the water tests on Friday: 0 ammonia, 0 nitrates, 0 phosphates, 35 ppt salinity, 9 dKH. I am testing my water right now again.

Thanks, y'all!

That dosen't look to concerning in and of itself. The smaller male definitely looks scared of the larger female so keep an eye on for that.

Also there is a bit of surface film building up on that far end which is a normal problem with peninsula style tanks.

Nothing urgent but things to consider

Thank you! The fish is still doing fine so I assume it's just a weird behavior!

I will look into getting a Nero 3 / pump then! Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I finally picked up a Nero 3! I mounted it diagonally across from my return nozzle. Right now I have it programmed like this:

  • 9:00 PM – 6:30 AM: Constant speed at 5%
  • 6:30 AM – 10:45 AM: Random flow (1–25%, medium variance)
  • 10:45 AM – 10:50 AM: Pulse mode at 30% (1 second on / 1 second off) to kick up any detritus
  • 10:50 AM – 9:00 PM: Back to random flow (1–25%, medium variance)
What do you all think? Any changes you'd make?

Also, an update on the clownfish: the black ocellaris is just weird. It's always swimming weirdly... it's eating though.

Thanks, y'all!

Hey y’all! Quick update:

Everything has been going well so far. The water has completely cleared up, and the tank seems to be settling in nicely. The black ocellaris got a little beaten up, but thankfully it’s been recovering and looking better.

A few other updates:
  • I’m now running a CO₂ scrubber on the skimmer to help with pH.
  • I picked up a digital pH meter so I can keep a closer eye on pH and see how much of a difference the scrubber makes.
  • I added AlgaeBarn Galaxy Pods today to start building up the pod population and add some more biodiversity.

I’ll eventually add a second Nero 3 but that's a future problem
