No, not really.

It is fairly quiet below 60%. Above that it has a good hum. Reverse is much louder.

I have 2 and they are the only thing on my tank I can hear...and I'm 15' away from an I wall tank with pumps set @ 70%.

Good flow but loud pumps. Don't even ask about the controllers. They are terrible - both versions.

revisiting this older post.. Does anyone else have noise issues? I was set on the gyre 230 or 250 pumps but not if they are going to make a lot of noise.

It gets better after break in, but yeah nothing like a ecotech quiet drive though. Pushing it beyond 60% the noise is quite noticeable on the gyre. I run 2 at 40% random pulse.

It's louder than ecotech QD pumps but quieter than their old models.

I have an MP40QD and Gyre 230 in my tank and the Gyre is noticeably louder than the MP40QD. For me the decision on picking which I want to keep long term comes down to the flow from the pump and how the corals adjust to it.

I bought the larger 250's so I could run them lower. I have two in a 120. They are quiet on anything under 60% unless you are right next to the tank, but I run them on 40% and they are silent. Even at the higher speeds if you are in a room with normal ambient noise you wouldn't notice them at all.

I can't say what they sound like higher than 60%...more than that in my 120 and I'm blowing water out of the tank! :p

What size tank you have and what speed you running the gyre?

I run them at 40 to 50% on alternating gyre mode with 4sec ramp up 4sec duration 4 sec ramp down 4sec reverse at 100% on a six foot 125 gallon glass tank .
Anything more and I get a sand storm .
I have run it up to 100% just to see if I could hear it .but nothing .
I think glass tanks might be quieter . And also longer ramp times might help .

Another thing I noticed is that if you use them on only forwards , an occasional blast on reverse seems to help keep them clean .
