For me it is suspense, creepy topics or situations.

The thought of a slasher, goblin, etc gets my hair raised more than the actually gore of when they strike. Although the gore which I used to watch a bit of disturbs me more now, especially if it is really well done...like Hostel or Saw...with a creepy situation and gore. I feel more emotionally drained than if it was an old school creepy monster in the bushes film.

Heck I can’t watch spooky stuff. I start looking over my shoulder. The spookiest I’ve gone is the zombies in the maze runner series. I love those movies.
