ph= 8.3
salinity= 1.025
NO3= 0
alk= 9

all my other coal is doing great. only thing I read online somewhere is maybe my temp is a bit too high. (79 to 82f) is that the problem or could it be something else?

Hi Prozium, is it a new addition? from what I see in the picture your sand bed is covered in some type of growth, cyano or diatoms, this leads to the possible cause of your discoloration ie. high nutrient levels, I do not believe its bleaching its more browning out from too much food, this is why stick growers keep levels as low as possible like zeovit tanks, I would start running purigen right away and change it weekly, do a good tank cleaning and have a real good look at your feeding and water change routines.
A reading of 0 no3 is possible if your test kit is bad or the algae is consuming it, best advise on test kits? they are only useful when the tank is "perfect" and just starting to slide.

it's been in my tank for a little over a month and a half. can I run the purigen in a media bag, or do I need to get a media reactor for it?

mine comes in bags and I drop them in the filter sock, recharging them is really easy so buy 2x what you need, use 1 amount while recharging the other then its never offline, just do not ever let them dry out
