Hello, I picked up a small green hammer coral around 3 weeks ago. I haven't noticed any stress or anything, its next to my other two hammers. Today I did notice a tiny piece of its tentacle was floating away. I know that's not good, but how serious is this? I'm watching to make sure nothing else is melting away, the hammer is currently open, and has all its color.

Don’t know what’s in your tank but every so often I’ll find a stray octospawn or hammer tentacle floating by. I don’t have any “coral nippers” in my tank so not sure what happens but they all seem to be fine and healthy. I would watch for recession. Look to how the flesh is looking? Does it look healthy? Are there pests on the skeletal stem or in the branches? Make sure to maintain good parameters.

Its the hammer on the right. It's a bit retracted right now but my lights are starting to dim for the night. Should I move it away from my other hammers to be sure? I dont see any pests on it, but haven't inspected really close. The hammer to the left of it is doing really good, this hammer is newer and the smallest of the 3 I have.

I’m not an expert for sure but I would personally wait and watch it. Moving may be stressful as well. If it continues to decline you can move it to see if it’s needing better flow or lighting situation. If more tentacles start floating around you either have fish nipping out pests. What do you have in the tank besides the hammers? What fish do you have? What are your parameters? Have you checked them?

And a pistol, but he's always in the cave with the Watchman.
My hammer drops tentacles from time to time and is healthy. If I bump into it cleaning the glass it may drop a few.
If it's fully expanded it should.not be a problem, imo.
