I am holding on to a hammer for a friend that just bought is last week. It is not opening up and Im confused as to why. Everything else in the tank is doing great. I’ve never had a coral not open up so I’m just looking for some ideas as to maybe why.

Welcome to R2R... How are your parameters looking, especially compared to your friends tank. pH, Temp, Alk, Ca, and salinity?

My friend just got his tank so I am holding on to a few coral until his tank is ready.
PH-7.8
Temp- 78/79F
Alk-10.2dkh
Ca-453ppm
Salinity-34ppt

Yes I acclimated it to the tank as I have all my coral.
Nitrite-33ppd
PH-7.8
Cal-453ppm
Alk-10.2
Do you know the parameters of the tank it came from?

I'm running out of ideas, other than the Clown taking a liking to it, and maybe tried to host in it, and irritated the hammer. Everything else looks great. I hope someone with more experience will have some more suggestions for you.

second pic looks like it is starting to open compared to first pic, poss dip and time :)

Welcome to R2R. Your tank looks great. Hope the hammer picks up soon. Lots of knowledgable and helpful people here who will support and advise you when needed.

Update #1
Just dipped the coral and placed it in a shaded spot.
I will post another update in a few days.
