Hammers are infected? Stalks have a white coat growing on them.

Hello,

After removing a complete frag bleach I've now noticed my hammers are being overgrown by some thick white/grey coating.

Anyone have any ideas?

(Picture colours enhanced on phone as **** was taken at night)

I don't see it either, but what you are describing could be an infection or something akin to Brown Jelly Disease.

You can try a coral dip, peroxide dip, or treating with an antibiotic such as Ciprofloxacin or Chloramphenicol.

Here's a better photo .. look on the stalks from the rock up to the branches. Or is this just normal?

Are you talking about the brown spots on the calcareous part? While I don't know if those are necessarily "normal", it shouldn't be a problem unless it's growing on/over the fleshy part.

I have no idea what's going on I can't pinpoint the negatives if any or I'm just not with it.

Hammers are now not expanding and one of them is chucking some brown hair out of it! Also my 12" anemone has her mouth wide open which in my opinion is a bad sign according to some research?

I just done some water tests .. it's all up and down...

And the past two days I've noticed that my pulsung x are not opening .. something definitely wrong.

The pics look normal and babies are popping out. That bit seemed fine.

The gaping and strings now are not normal.
Test for ammonia. Also insure your rodi is still 0 tds.
What and how are you dosing cal alk?
Look for dead stuff. Turbos are nasy btw.

Was there a change from the first pictures and the gaping mouth problem now?
WC, bottle of bacteria, a food you had not fed recently etc...

Test your ph tonight at the end of the day and then first thing in the morning.

There seems To be some question on your ph tests. How are you testing?

I don't have that test but will buy one tomorrow and test.

1ppm

I've been manually adding the additives by hand as waiting in the dosing kit to come Monday. However I recently only started to dose it's been under a week so fare.

I have lost two small fish and can't see them anywhere so must of been eaten up.

No recently only started doing this crazy stuff. What do you mean in regards to the bacteria etc?

I test in the evening with the salifert, colour charts starting to play with my eyes though!

Hammers are in and out but the mouths are not right and the other heads look like they blowing a big bubble.

Getting worse by the hour!! My sump STINKS of 20 year old garbage waste!

I think you found the problem.

Turn it all off and get the new water ready. You can leave the power heads on in the tank and be just fine.

The additives I use are from red sea.
Just cal and alk or foods aminos etc

Just cal and alk or foods aminos etc

Nopox cal alk mag .. 5ml a day each working well so fare.

2 weeks ago I got a brand new sump as previous was 4 years old absolutely rotten and got a new skimmer too.

I very much doubt my new skimmer would be making that smell due to the large cup?

Just had a 20%ish water change.

I think an ammonia test tomorrow however, If comes back clear then I'm definitely scratching my head :/

That cup is changed every 24 hours and today is done about 3/4 of the usual day.

The bio reactor isn't on because it sends my skimmer nuts so has been off for 5 days but only ran it for about 3 hours from new.

Does it smell like funk or rotten eggs?

That's a huge bacterial machine you're running. Bio pellets plus carbon dosing with no pox.

The smell was from the cup ..

I may stop nopox now and remove that reactor as is it still lurking in the water.

Since I cleaned the sump completely with a hose in the garden I remove the old skimmer and pads etc and then put that beast of a skimmer in and turned it right up .. would you say I've overkilled it? I'm starting to think I've over done it because looking back on a photo taken 16 days before the sump clean etc everything was lovely and wide open...

Oops?

My fear was, sulfur. But it shouldn't have had time to form if it's that new.
I don't know if nopox creates that much of a smell.

The stuff on the hammer could be
A bacteria. Don't look like it. Or sponges. The like bacteria.

The other thing to consider would be the new pads. Maybe?

I can't figure out in your set up what would make them throw up.

Not that I think it could have any effect on things but i do like to feed the fish - 2 cubes of frozen shrimp and garlic a day. I do also feed my anemones every day too and the hammers are right next to them which could course them getting too much food/waste on and around them which could be flooding them?

I will stop nopox, remove all medias and reactors also the bags etc .. go slower with the alk,mag and calc dosing (only 1 week in straight to 5ML each) buy more matured rock and try to fill the aquarium back up?
Since I've had a clear out and removing things in the past 2 weeks the place looks like death :(

* Sometimes you just need to leave things! But hay .. its an experimenting hobby, right? o\

I'd say slow down.
It's possible looking at the amount of sponges that food is trapped there and giving off ammonia or something.

Slow is always best. Unavoidable sometimes but....

What are your pH and Magnesium. They both look really low. Are you sure that you tested them correctly? It looks like the magnesium was in free fall and the pH was dropping as well, too. These may be side effects of the other issues but definitely need to be monitored. Also, what time of day are you testing the pH (hours after lights turn on).

Good luck

I have just done these test. Lights have been off for about 4 hours now.

Regarding the ph test kit I can't eve seem to get a direct color match on the chart provided ..

New app it was set wrong .. app fixed. Think it's worth if I scrap the dosser and drip KW? My ph is all over the place .. busy busy living room 4 fully grown Rottweilers 2 kids 1 baby myself and the misses always in from around 3pm till 12am.

If I do go ahead and start dripping KW for the 3 things my water is spiking it should sort itself out and I'll just feed the fish only with 1 cube every 48 hours? Remove all media slow the skimmer down and keep my hands out of that water... things should start picking up?

I've been in the game for about 14 months very passionate about it. I'm just wanting to get on top of this water.

Cheers for the comments though people much appreciated.
