Im considering getting a sump fro my 75 gallon tank and but I am unable to drill the tank since the glass is tempered. If anyone has a hang on back overflow, I would be Interested in hearing how you like it and what you have to make it leak proof

When I first started out in reefing, I used a hang on back overflow. Worked well never gave me any issues. Main thing is to keep them clean so the siphon doesn't break causing an overflow. But, yeah, worked well until I could get a tank I could drill. Per usual I'll always recommend a reef ready or able to be drilled tank, but gotta work with what you got :)

what size sump did you have? I was thinking about a 20 gallon

I had a 40 gallon breeder with a 20 gallon sump

I have an eshoppes 800gph on a 40 breeder that feeds into the sump on my 120. Only problem I’ve had was when bubble algae built up and basically stopped the draining. Other than that it has worked flawlessly.

I've been using one for about 3 years, no problems at all. I think I've cleaned the siphon tube only a couple times. Works like a champ. The thing to keep in mind to prevent overflows is to keep the amount of water in the return chamber of the sump LESS than the volume of water that will fit in in the display.

In other words, if you stop the siphon, the return chamber will run dry BEFORE the display overflows. I just made my own sump with a 20 gallon high and a kit from Jax Racks (another good product) You can customize to your needs if you do it yourself.

With the Lifereef, I turn off the return every time I need to do something like change the sock or feed coral. I have NEVER had to restart the siphon. Only time I have had to restart is when I have removed the siphon tube.

Nope, once the level in the tank drops below the intake level it stops suctioning water and once the power kicks back on it resumes siphoning.
