Hanna Alkalinity reagents price increase?

Yesterday I added 3 Hanna Alkalinity reagents to my cart totaling $39 ($13 per bottle). I was holding off on purchasing in case of a sale. Today I checked and the price is now $45 ($15 per bottle). Happy 4th July!!

Another reason to use API's Alkalinity test kit. :) FWIW, When I got my Hanna Alkalinity test kit I used a friends kit to test a sample of water. Using reagents from both kits in both testers on the same sample of water we got four different results varying by .9 dKH. Since researchers are using the meq/l scale and the dKH scale is ~1.9 x more sensitive seems inexpensive kits like API or Salifert are more than accurate enough.

Ooooooops! My bad! to convert meq/l to dKH multiply by 2.8. To convert dKH to meq/l multiply by.357

Salifert - No tester $0 + reagent $16 (100 day supply)

Hanna’s reagent is essentially $45 when compared to Salifert’s (not even including the cost of tester). Looks like I’ll go ahead and make the switch. Shame.

still 13$ ?, it was around 9$ pre covid idk % rate increases but it's been jumping up there for sure!

alkatronic is the way to go for me I currently test every 6 hours for pennies and it's surprisingly accurate to the Hanna test when I check it. it's so much cheaper to test since I've gotten it it's paid for itself if I were to be paying for Hanna alkalinity reagent for that many tests, plus my time it's way cheaper!

I wish these prices still existed.. it just continues to get worse! These used to be $6 or $7. Today they are $18. This is the price point I'm going to start to look at alternatives. Approaching $1 per test while you're trying to get a calcium reactor dialed is excessive.

Yep this is why I use salifert for alk. Does the job just fine .

I have their CA and MG kits which sit idle on a workbench as I have found them very inaccurate.
The sample size is so small it contributes to poor results.

For CA and MG, Hanna’s colour meter is next to useless as the colour change for these two is dramatic in Salifert and Aquaforest, from pink to dark blue, and, within a drop.

I do find their phosphate checkers excellent as the colour change is so, so small and either looks zero, or a super faint baby blue, and the difference between the blue for, I can’t tell if that’s 0.05 or .25ppm and I do want to know that number.

What’s strange to me is the reagents in Canada assuming a current exchange rate of 60 cents to 1 USD, is much cheaper than US. That’s rare!

Totally agree. I only use Hannah for po4 . Wouldn't touch any others . Well maybe I'd invest in a Hannah nitrate. All the rest of them I wouldn't bother . Salifert has me covered .

I do have the Hanna nitrate tester, seems reasonably consistent, but again, the other tests work just as well.
