Yea I think it depends on what you're trying to test!
Nitrate and Phosphate I trust Hanna.
Magnesium.. I say don't test... RMM!
I also use Hanna for Alk and Calcium, but I'm sure there are betters out there and others can recommend.

Salifert is OK for calcium as long as calcium is within range or close to range. But recently when my calcium dosing pump failed I discovered that the Salifert kit does not give a reading when calcium level is low (<340 in my case).

I use API for calc and KH and I have no problems. My LFSs use API as well, other than phosphates, they use Hanna. I'm thinking I could stick with what is working for me and add the Hanna MG and phosphates or just the MG.

I don't think API should be used beyond getting your tank cycled, but that is my personal opinion. Others can provide further input :)
