I've got my tank up and am now working on sump configuration. My sump (For my Nyos 440), comes with a filter sock section that I'm not planning to use - and will be plumbing in a filter roller instead. A couple of questions for the experts:
As it currently stands - the main drain line and overflow pipe go into the bottom of the first section, which then overflows into the filter socks, and the filtered water makes it's way out into the main section of the sump. My plan is to throw in some 90s or 45s (tbd) and hard plumb (with a union for removal) directly into the filter roller.
So, question 1: Should I remove the baffle (red section) for that first section - effectively combining it into the main section? If so, I'm changing the sump semi-permanently and I generally would like to avoid if I could without creating later issues. If I don't remove it, I end up with just the emergency flow going into the first section (as the main drain skips it and goes directly over the wall and into the filter roller), but I guess that's enough water where that first section doesn't get stale and lack enough flow? Or would leaving the baffle be a problem?
Question 2: My understanding (first reef tank!) is that setting the height of the roller can take some adjustment (or maybe that's wrong and it's obvious?) - if so - how do most people go about hard plumbing without having a chance to fine tune it? Do they temporarily run a silicone / braided tubing to start and then move to hard plumbing later?
