Hello all,

We recently purchased a harlequin shrimp which arrived on Tuesday. It appeared healthy and we acclimated it per shipping instructions. Like probably many who purchase this shrimp we did so due to a problem with Asterina starfish.

The shrimp seemed fine but after a few hours hid behind the rocks and though we can catch glimpses of it between rocks we have not seen it.

Is this normal? Do these shrimp stay hidden routinely?

Here is a photo of him the day he arrived:

Starting to worry about him a little...

Is there a trick btw to getting him to each a chocolate chip starfish? Mine just kind of looks at it, but wont go for the kill.

I just usually put a chocolate chip starfish in there and mine comes out and climbs on top of it and flips it over. He also drags it into his "den" to eat. I believe from what I've read that they can smell the starfish, which seems true seeing as mine is usually nowhere near where I put the starfish in.

I have a mates pair. They have shared two stars, I haven’t seen the female for about ten days now, the male is ripping apart a cc on his own. Nothing in the tank would hurt the female and she’s much bigger! I’m starting to worry

Except each other...my female killed my small male....:(
