Has anyone tried these drill pumps?

I'm thinking about gettimg one to clean the sump gunk out.

Depending on what is in your sump, a small rock or snail could easily get into the pipe and stop the works up. Also, I wouldn't use a battery operated tool around my tank, but it might work perfect for your needs?

Use them all the time for that purpose they work great. Harbor Freight sells them for 18 bucks. I also used one for water changes when I had a smaller tank and I mounted it to a hunk of wood for more stability.

I had tried them a couple times YEARS ago (decades?) and they worked but didnt last very long. They also didnt like being used on high speed of drill they would get hot. The pic you showed looks better built than the older ones.

They are cheap to buy . Mine worked well for fresh water . I have no idea about salt. I would buy 2 and rinse it well by running fresh water through it after use . Don't lose the receipt , and keep track. I use a transfer pump myself that uses a garden hose attachment and run the hose to my laundry tub . \no lugging pails . They probably wont move water very far

They make small inline pumps thats best for vacuuming the sumps and doing water changes

These work well also and are tough as nails mine is over 10 years old. As mentioned above the roto pumps do burn out quick I think a got a year or two of normal use before the first one died though YMMV
