a snail laid these. Can I slice some off and collect them and hatch it in a separate container with an air stone? Or would breaking them off the glass kill them?

Those are cerith eggs. I’ve never heard it done before but I know they won’t make it in your tank. I’ll be curious to see how it turns out if you try it.

I'm dying to know if you can do it. I have plenty of snail eggs and no babies. Maybe use the sump as a nursery?

I have tons of Trochus snails hatching in my tank! Idk what I’m doing so I can’t answer your question lol. However I’m going to figure out how they are hatching and then I’ll let everyone know. I’ll add pictures of them below. They are definitely not hitchhikers due to not getting any new coral.

Update for everyone following - I sliced them off with a razor blade and put them into a culture container with an air stone. I will keep everyone posted if anything hatches

update to everyone - it is definitely cerith snail eggs and something hatched in my container. I added in some phyto and fatty acids to see if anything happens

Unfortunately everything in the jar died - after reading online I think I need to somehow culture diatoms to feed them in the first larva stage

That helps explain why these aren’t commonly hatched in our tanks whereas other snails like Trochus seem to be able to breed and survive.
