we got 5 in and they were sold before we landed them in. I barely took these pics and videos to show the difference. I am trying to see if we can get them more often or consistent.

It goes without saying that the captive will yellow up just fine in short order. This has been seen here with a couple of hobbyist having both.

Nothing you don't already know though.

Here is a comparison pic.
Lighter yellow is 3 months in our facility from captive bred breeder vs wild yellow we got from supplier in Tahiti

I suspect these fish are not same age. The face structure of the captive breed is reminiscent of a very recently settled juvenile and the metamorphosis from pelagic form is not fully complete (including color which is transparent during pelagic period), and wild one looks like a typical juvenile.

I wonder if captive bread ones are just bigger in size due to food availability but younger in age in general.

I’m sure they eat plenty even in captivity. It’s what they are eating that is of an issue.

What I mean is if captive bred ones get more food than wild ones and therefore end up being larger in size at a younger age. Because the picture shows fish of relatively similar size (wild is slightly larger but not too much), but the captive bred one is still displaying neotenic characteristics like the shorter snout.

Ahhh okay got it. Seems feasible. In the realm of food amounts. And super concentrated food will give most animals a fast growth rate for sure. Look at chickens that graze in a yard free ranging, vs one that is fed concentrated super charged foods.

The yellowing has to also be food type that they are eating in the wild vs captivity. So it would be a blend of things. Food amount, food type, and growth rate vs how much food and swimming space they have.

Let me know, I have 1 we held back in case of doa or claims etc, But as of yesterday all 4 made it ok at their permanent homes. In a couple of days we will be able to release that last one.
