I've recently closed down an 80 gallon reef. All livestock, rock etc was removed about 5 days ago but the tank was left idle with just sand and water.

Last night I drained all the water and scooped out the remaining sand (didn't smell too good).

Today both me and my partner woke up with splitting headaches. I've spent half the day in bed feeling tired, lethargic and a possibly slightly feverish. Of course she went to work!

Just wondering what it could be. Some sort of reaction to ammonia or sulfur? That built up in the sand?

I agree with the suggestion to get tested for COVID to be on the safe side but if you're concerned about the tank releasing something into the air, it couldn't hurt to crack a few windows to rule out that variable. Feel better!
