anyone else get bad headaches alot?

i used to get them alot in college. i think it was a combination of stress, lack of sleep, but mostly lack of eating b/c i couldn't afford enough food to feed my fatness.

but i still get them every now and then, and they really suck and pretty much put me in a standstill and i gota lay down in the dark with it being quiet.

i took some meds for it for about 2 years, never did any good. only alleve works for me but its not good for my stomach as i have acid reflux problems (probably from taking way too much aleve for injuries and headaches....lol)

oh yeah, bright light causes me to get headaches too. so i always wear very dark sunglasses just about everywhere at all times of the day, even if its cloudy and raining.

i know i've seen research that headaches may be caused by withdrawel symptoms from alleve...pretty interesting.

Surfn, I get really horrible migraines and it sounds like you might be suffering from them by your sensitivity to light and severity such that you need to lay down. Is the pain localized to one region? Do you have any jaw problems like TMJ or grinding your teeth? I'd recommend seeing the doctor about it and having them check you out. They have some good prescriptions out there that most often get rid of my migraines.

the pain is on both sides of my head, behind my eyes up near my frontal lobes or temporal region.

ive seen docs about it, and used alot of depakote but it never helped at all.

no TMJ or jaw probs, that was the very first thing they thought about. i KNOW i can get massive migrains if i forget to eat. the migrains come on normally late in the evening, after it gets dark around 8pm.

I've heard they can be caused by having too many zoa's...... so send me all of yours and see if the headaches go away....

i'm pretty sure its algae that gives me headaches, and sometimes sps and zoas.

so if you give me your address, i'll send you alot of various types of algae. ;)

Definately sounds like Migraines, I have them and have GERD as well, had one of my Bosses tell me he -yes he took Midol for them, tried it and if I take one or two right when I start feeling the symptoms I'm alright. Also, watch the weather alot of Migraines are cause by changes in the Barometric pressure. I can pretty much tell a storm is coming two days before we get hit. Foods, extreme smells and yes lack of sleep can trigger them. If you find your triggers it will help alot. Good luck.

the thing i was told by a neurologist, is that i was a pretty abnormal patient. b/c extreme bright light makes me tired and sleepy. but after the sun goes down, is when i get a headache.

the only trigger i know for sure is that if i dont eat, i will get a migraine.

thats the only definite cues i can come up with, and the only med that works is aleve. but margaritas also work, or maybe its that i'm disabled so i can't feel the migraine effects...i dunno. :hammer:

I have to admit I also will take midol for bad headaches. I also have used aleve and motrin with some success. I found that most of my extreme headaches are caused by my teeth grinding at night, so now I have a mouth guard for that. It definitely helps.

yup, got a mouth guard a while back, but again, my migraines never came on until very late evening. so that pretty much ruled out TMJ.

Might be an off the wall Q but do you have a carbon monoxide detector in your home?

nope, but i normally live in a different place every year. last two years i lived in a townhouse, the 2 years before that i was in an old house i rented. now i'm renting an apartment.

Well that scratched that idea than...

Bright lights causing a headache are a bit atypical of Migraines. Bright lights exacerbating (making worse) migraines is common, as is photophobia and hypersensitivity to lights.

Questions I would ask you:

- When do you get the headaches?
- How long do the headaches last?
- Where do you feel the headaches?
- How often do you get headaches?
- Anything make the headahces worse?
- Anything make the headaches better?
- Any other symptoms? sensitivity to light, sensitivity to noise, ringing in yours ears, tastes in your mouth, watery eyes, runny nose
- Where does the pain start?
- Any neck pain, shoulder pain?
- How long have you been getting headaches?

i answered most questions in the above posts... ;) no other neurological problems accompany them.

Surfn....do you drink a lot of caffiene? I drink a lot of it and if I go for long periods during the day without it I get major headaches. Not to the point of light sensitivity though....that sounds like migraines. Do you drink plenty of water? Have you ever had your blood sugar checked?

There are different types of migraines... Mine are like a wedge being driven into my skull at a 45 degree angle through the left temple. Imitrex works, but it makes my brain feel like it is on fire for about 45 minutes. Then all is good. Suffer more than you were before to end the pain. Ain't medicine grand. I've tried other types of relievers, but nothing has works like imitrex, so what are you gonna do. They did put me on nadolol as a preventative maint. It lowered my heart rate from a resting 90-100 to about 65 and once we found the right dosage, the migraines have almost stopped (were daily for a few months-thought it was a sinous infection at first, but now only ever other month or so). Good luck with it. When pain takes you out of your game, it's no fun...

My wife and I get them as well and was told by a Dr. she knows that Ibuprofen is not a good drug to take for any headaches as it constricts the veins. I usually use Excedrin migraine and it works every time. Faster if you catch it as the symptoms come on. If you do take it you have to take 2 every time. DO NOT take only one for some reason it makes it worse, my wife and I both have experienced that so I knew it wasn't just me. I have had them to the point I would puke(sorry for being gross) and the only thing I have found to work outside of Prescription meds is Excedrin migraine or going to the emergency room....

Azurel- Normal headaches are a constriction in the blood vessel true, but a migraine is a dilation of the blood vessels which is why the Ibuprofin does work with a Migraine vs "normal" headache. The Mayo Clinic has alot of good information on Migraines if you want to know more.

when i was in 7th grade i got cluster migrains, 5 or so of them they would come on very random and i would scream of how it hurt! i spent a month to 2 months in the hospital, i was on topamax and viks, i lost 20 pounds though lol but i came right back lol, but i dont get them any more thank god, but the pain was so intense it felt like some one on stomping on my head, one question i do have is since you are getting them behind your eyes, do you wear glasses not sun but normal glasses bc i have a friend where she had head aches behind her eyes and went to the eye doctor and got glasses and they went away
