Heater in Sump

Hi All,

Trying to heat my 90 gallon tank and the water in the sump is of temperature but the display tank is about 4 degrees below. Should l move the heater to the main display tank or buy a cheap heater and place that temporary in the display tank? I’m guessing it’s having a hard time heating becuase the water doesn’t stay in the sump long enough?

Are you using the same thermometer for both readings?

The heater and the temperature probe that control it should always be together in our setups. Separating them can lead to several problems.

There is typically not going to be that much of a delta between the sump and the display unless flow between the two is insanely low and heat load to one or the other is drastically different.

Are you using the same thermometer for both readings?

No there is one on the glass for the display tank, and the controller, apex probe, and heater are all in the sump

I have the temperature probe from the built in heater controller and the apex in the sump with the heater itself. The one reading extremely low is the one on the side of the display tank
