Got a frag of some palys the other day with this shiny mound on it kinda purpleish. thought it was just some random dead thing on the plug for the past two weeks then three days ago it popped some polyps out and they have been out since. Recently a buddy mentioned this name and described it as being porcelain like and i started thinking this is what i have. What do yall think?

The shininess you described when first seeing it and the polyps would suggest a type of leather coral.

its hard and encrusted so not a leather...its a really strange thing. Im going to cut it off the frag and put it on the rack and just let it do its thing for a bit and see what happens i guess haha.

looks like heliopora to me. cutting it off the plug will tell you for sure. if the hard surface is blue it is a heliopora.

It must have started as a single polyp on the edge of that rock it was growing over the nub so no skeleton was cut.
