Hello everybody

Hi all.I'm Ernie and I live in upstate ny.I've been an aquarium hobbyist for most of my adult life.Which at this point is longer than I care to remember..lol Over the years I've had just about every kind of freshwater fish you can name and at one time I had about 10 tanks of varying sizes going at once.
Now I have just 1 A 125 gal.And this is my second attempt at a reef tank.The first one lasted for about 2 years and would probably still be going to this day.Had it not been for a freak storm that knocked out power to a good portion of our city for up to 5 days.Mine personally was out for 4 days.Needless to say all I had left was mush in my tank.
Anyways Recently I got the "itch" to try again.To my delight it looks as if the hobby has advanced by leaps and bounds since then.I'm running a deep sand bed with about 75-100lbs of rock that I stored from the old tank.Its all just base rock now.
I'm looking for some live sand to add.If anybody has some they can sell me Pls get in touch.Or if you know of a commercial site that I can trust I'll take that.

Welcome Ernie! Why go with a deep sand bed.. as you'll eventually find out there has been quite a bit of debate over it's use during the last eight years or so. As for getting live sand I would be shocked if there was a reef club near you for you to join. If so, I would just ask one of the members for some live sand to stick in your tank. That and you'll be able to catch up on all what's new with the reefing world. :D

Welcome to R2R!! I'm sorry to hear about your last tank. There's not much you can do about an extended power outage unless you want to invest in a generator. Glad to hear that you're getting back into it.

Welcome Ernie to R2R, the old timers club, and the DSB club. Nothing wrong with a DSB, personally I would use dry aragonite sand and then seed it with a cup or two from another local reefer or LFS that has a nice live sandbed (shallow or deep, don't matter). You'll have a thriving sandbed in no time. If we can help in anyway, please don't hesitate to contact us.
