Hey I am new to the reef hobby. I just finished my cycle on my 55gallon with t5 lighting and natural sea water. Yes I am collecting my water from the beach on Santa Rosa island. I have done alot of research on using nsw and I just want to give it a go. I know there's alot of ppl that think I'm crazy but I think that it is going to be better for my reef than store bought salt, I guess we will see. I'be had my tank running for 2 months now the only fish I have so far are 4 small cocoa damsels that I collected from local waters also.

Welcome to R2R that is a crystal clear tank. I am in central Floria. I have been wanting to take the test kit to the beach and see what natural sea water tests with my kits. Me get have to do that when it cools down.

Welcome to R2R!

What's the blue rock on the right?

Is it a rock or a coral skeleton? If it is a coral skeleton could it be this:

The “blue coral”, Heliopora coerulea, is actually a highly calcified octocoral. It is so common in the Indo-West Pacific that in the 1980's it was collected and manufactured into simple jewelry, and called the “denim coral” because of its color. (USNM 45123)

Good call, I'll bet you're right.
