Hello everyone.

I grew up with my dad having lots of tanks and even a pond in the backyard. I grew up in Orange County California and the house we lived at had a 200 gallon pond with a waterfall and plants already set up so naturally my dad decided to look into it and filling it up. We had a few red ear sliders that could crawl out and roam around the backyard, some koi, a pleco, and a red tail catfish to top it off. In the house we had a tank with a Fahaka Puffer that was awesome to watch it eat or follow your finger around the glass. He also had a predator tank with some Triggerfish, a Yellow Tang, a Zebra Moray Eel, a Lionfish, a Brown Banded Cat Shark, and some others that I just cant remember.

Its been over 25 years since I've had an aquarium at home and a few months ago I got that itch to and knew I wanted to do a Saltwater Reef tank because it was something I always loved about all the bright colors. I've spent the last few months doing research and watching videos which lead me to here with all of you lovely souls.

I'm planning on moving back to California in the next year so I don't want to bother trying to set up a reef tank now only to have to tear it all down and try and move multiple states so for now its just researching until I can dive back in.

So you are leaving the Pacific Northwest for California? I am sorry for you hahaha! Most of us escaped and never looked back hahaha! Well there are lots of reef stores in California so that is a plus. House prices and taxes may bite into your reef budget though.

I'm originally from California. I moved to Washington to buy a house which I did, but I had one buddy I had known from Cali that had moved up here when his parents did and I came for vacation a few times and loved it which is why I moved here. His parents are retiring soon and want to move to Arizona and he's planning on going to Vegas to be closer to his parents which leaves me here with nobody I'm really close with. All my friends and family are still in Cali and since I moved up here my brother has had 2 daughters and a son on the way, and my best friend also had a daughter. So as much as its going to financially suck it will be nice to be able to see my nieces more then one-two times a year and to be able to see my friends regularly also. Going from a $1250 mortgage to Cali will suck for sure though, but at least my house has doubled in value since I bought it in 2018,
