Yeah So much great advice on here ! Definitely a lot patience you need for this hobby haha spent like 5 hour picking up and setting up the tank and apex , thinking I was done ... just to
Find out I had a leak

Reefkeeping rarely happens in a straight-line and can be a two-steps-forward-one-step-back thing. The important thing to get to a successful reef is to always be learning and don't quit.

Drain or shut off until the water stops running.
Get yourself the BLUE gel for PVC which is also thicker and allow to dry. Will seal it right up

Yea, like said above, you don’t have to drain anything just unplug the pump and cut out the coupling. While you have it apart I would suggest replacing the coupling with a union so you can easily do pump maintenance down the road.

Solid advice right there!

Welcome to R2R! I'm a little late to the party but I think if you follow the advice given you should be good. Just don't get discouraged when things like this happen. Learn from them and keep reefing! Best of luck with your repair. :)

edit: Also, if you need more information on apex programming you might check out the thread below. Lots of good info there.

No draining of overflow needed. Here's what happens when you turn off the return pump.
1. Water in display area will continue draining until it gets below the overflow weir.
2. Water in the overflow will continue draining until it gets below the lowest drain stain pipe. As long as the stand pipe isn't removed the water will remain at that level in the overflow.
