So I got an angler today. He came floating upside down in the bag and wasnt moving. I assumed he was dead. I went to discard him and his mouth opened… I was like oh F—- he is alive! Got him into the water but he is still doing this floaty thing. I turned off the flow for now, it was just blowing him around on the surface. Is there anything I can do for him????? @lion king @vetteguy53081 @Jay Hemdal any suggestions? I feel so bad I totally thought he was DOA, didnt see any gill movements. Excuse the algae in the tank… he is by himself.

Doubtful, for anglers to survive, everything needs to go right.
So its just a watch and wait kind of thing to see if he lives? Nothing I can really do to help him along?

Good luck. Ive been following along in your posts about getting these guys. I hope he makes it.
Likewise been following. Did you already talk to whoever you purchased from?

I figure scorps are expert only, but hopefully you have some recourse if it dosent pull through.

This angler is in high ditress and normally confine themselves to bottom. It is Possible it ingested air while in the bag especially if bag fell sideways. You can add aeration via airstone and watch it, but it may or may not make it.
Was this a local purchase or shipped?
Did you acclimate fish at all after this episode?

Eh well the guy is saying he majorly discounted him already from 225 to 120 so if thats true then I get it. I feel bad cause I thought he was dead and didnt take him out of the bag and took pictures as a DOA then went to throw him and thats when he moved! He is sitting on the pump pipe now and kinda the right way. Crossing my fingers for the little dude

He was shipped and I thought that about the air. Honestly when I realized he was alive I freaked out with how long I left it in the bag thinking it was dead and just opened the bag and put it in the tank and released him under the water

The risk here is fish in shipped bags produce carbon dioxide and ammonia. The carbon dioxide lowers the pH of the water in the bag, That in turn makes the ammonia non-toxic to the fish. When you acclimate them, if not done just right, you drive off the carbon dioxide faster than you are diluting the ammonia. That raises the pH of the water in the bag, and that in turn, makes the residual ammonia very toxic to the fish

Yeah I thought releasing him right in the tank instead of the slow acclimation would have been better for the ammonia no? He was in rough shape to begin with.

Yeah I just wasnt sure what to to save the poor guy. I moved him under a rock so if he goes to float he wont go to the top and gulp air, I hope. I hope he pulls through, he is a cool one

Excuse the algae in the water, I just scraped to get a clean view of him

Sorry to see! I agree with the others, there likely isn't anything that can be done for it other than to keep it in good water conditions, dim light, and out of water currents. Fingers crossed!

The only other thing, I saw a partial view of its caudal/tail fin. It looks like there is some damage to it. I seemed to see some deterioration and little threads of tissue hanging off. If you see the same thing, then I would contact the supplier and ask why they shipped a fish with tail damage?

Seller says its normal for them to develop swim bladder issues while in shipping and be very lethargic… um okay dude
