Has anyone built a compact canister filter from a 5 gallon bucket? I've seen The King of Diy's Video but his filter is very bulky. Any tips on building one?

Dude, it Does NOT work. that king of DIY video is an utter failure. it WILL leak. I tried EVERYTHING to try and get it too seal. silicone grease, everything, they will just leak. There are MANY people who tried and failed.

Buy a sun sun filter and save yourself the headache.

I thought about it also before I bought the FX6. I wish I could do a sump but my house would not allow that.

With so much on the line I didn't want to go for it

The Penn Plax Cascade canister filters are another solid canister filter at a reasonable price.

I'd go with Eheim classic canister filters. I have some of those that have been running more than 27 years...
