Hey R2R!

Just looking for some advice or tips on picking a new fish. I desperately want a yellow tang but know my 54 gal DT is too small. Just looking to see what people’s opinions are and what you would add in. I want something with a bit more yellow, green, or orange color.

I currently have been on a slight SPS kick and current livestock include basics since I just set up my tank last October and had to move to Michigan in June. Running a skimmer and have a small fuge with a small amount of Cheato in my sump.

Current list:

Two ocellaris clowns
Lawnmower blenny
3 blue green chromis
Fromia Star
Cleaner shrimp
10 blue hermits
Couple of snails
GSP
Kenya tree
Stylophora
ORA neon green Ceratipora
Two monti caps
Chalice

For yellow fish, you could look at a Canary Blenny or a Yellow Assessor.

For orange, maybe a Swalesi Basslet or a Firefish.

For green, I'm not coming up with anything that would work well there right now. A Mandarin is the most obvious choice and a good one, but your tank isn't mature enough to support one yet (work on your pod population first.) Lots of green wrasses, but most are too active and grow too large for a tank that size.

i picked up a yellow wrasse recently, really pretty fish, very vibrant yellow. but the LFS did have a yellow candy hogfish that tempted me. i went with what i knew would be good as i recall reading some stories of hogfish getting kinda mean. really pretty fish tho and might work with your stock list, i don't know. something to investigate if you want

Yellow wrasse, Halichoeres chrysus.

This would be number one on my list for the criteria mentioned by the OP. @The OP, the only reason you want a Yellow Tang is because you haven't owned one yet. Their scientific name would be Buttheadicus Maximus if I had my way. :D Either way, very prone to being jerks to tank mates and I had one try to take over my 90 gallon after about a month of adding it. I had to give it the boot. That wrasse will be a much better tank mate.
