Help filter not working

Just got a new filter for my 60 gallon tank and it will not suck in water. My children are hanging in the balance so any advice helps

I have no experience with this filter, however, raise the water in the tank to above the opening on the filter in pipe. Might also need to prime the filter by adding water directly to it to raise the internal level.

Quick test - If you take off the filter from the glass and submerge the input pipe fully, does the water return via the weir?

Assume you can hear the pump running also?!?

I agree water level looks too low. Filling the filter with water helps too.

Yep, water level is way too low to suck up the water. Raise the level in the tank.

There should be a mark on the front of the motor that says "Minimum Water Level".
If that is going to be your water level, you are better of getting an internal filter i.e.:

did you prime the filter by adding enough water to the filter so it can make suction
