Help for newbie

Hi guys, once again thank you for all your help.

I hope i have this post in the correct place.
Can anyone tell me maybe why my coral has not been showing the last couple of days? The only thing different i have done is lower the % of white light going into the tank. There is also a picture from a few days ago.

Green star polyps close sometime to shed the algae. If u have a turkey baster u can blow on it gently to help shedding the algae. If u see the purple skin deteriorate then its in trouble if not then its ok. Your tank look young how long have you start it?

Yes i have only been running the tank just over a week, from the information I gathered from members of this group i maybe should not of been sold coral so early but that was down to my lfs, they new i was new to saltwater tanks and they new that i had only just got the tank as i bought it of them. So i am just trying to do the best i can, my other two corals look great and happy i guess.

Agreed and also respond to low light and darkness . Mine are closed hour to two in the morning then look like a jungle

Thanks, i feel like the tank is getting enough light as i bought the A1 16HD and running around 75% blue,violet, royal and 50%UV 30% white 25% green and red. Also it is only 100 litre tank.

1 week is too soon to add anything to the tank. Tank has not cycled yet and parameters are likely all over the place. GSP are hardy and may make it through though. I wouldn’t add anything else until the cycle is complete.

Yes it is a shame I couldn’t count on my lfs to tell me this, they just let me spend my money. No now i no more about it i was not planning on adding anymore until the cycle is complete. Hopefully the coral and fish make it through.

BRS’s 52 weeks of reefing is a great place to learn! I started with that years ago and still go back to watch the videos. They also have newer 5 min ones that will help you start a tank as well. They include just about everything you need to know to kick start a fish tank.
