Help - hydroids? Any solutions?

Hi everyone,

Sorry to say that I think I have hydroids. I was hoping it’s hair algae. Can anyone please confirm, and possibly the specific type?

Phosphates .05. Nitrates 7.

Any ideas for removal? It’s on a few pieces of rock now with some Acropora I don’t want to remove. I’m hoping for chemical or natural eradication. Have heard emerald crabs, urchins, peppermint shrimp, maybe some butterflyfish or angelfish might eat it.

Willing to try anything.

Pictures to blurry to identify but yes looks like hydroids. can you remove the rock to treat it?
If you can remove the rock take it out and use some h2o2 and scrub with toothbrush. Rinse well either tank water or saltwater outside of the tank.
Put it back in the tank And monitor it.
Hydroids can be a real pain sometimes.

not necessarily same deal but i had a run in with digitate hydroids for quite some time and surprisingly a clownfish solved the problem by eating them?
if your clown isn’t up to the task i would try (if possible) taking that rock out to manually remove/ scrub them off / or QT that piece for a bit with a peppermint shrimp

Just leave the tank alone and monitor for a few months.

They look exactly like my hydroids. Mine came in on a rasta zoa frag. I have an emerald crab and some blue leg hermits that will pic on them, but not get rid of them. I've stopped feeding corals and do an every other day treatment with DIY coral snow, trying to starve them out. I want to try a peppermint shrimp, if I could find one. They seem to be out of season this time of year, at least around here.

I really appreciate all the responses. I’m gonna throw some emerald crabs and peppermint shrimp in there and see what happens. If nothing then I’ll take it out and try to treat the rock. Never a dull moment in this hobby lol

Be careful with peppermint shrimp many will eat coral especially that nice plate coral you have in there.

i’ve had more emerald crabs eat coral than peppermint shrimp :,(
lost my prize orange hammer and also a torch colony to one emerald

These are colonial hydroids and often if you direct water flow towards them, not at them - They will starve as they grab suspended food and love brine shrimp. Also adding which I am reluctant to do - Fenzbendazole will knock them down

Good to know. I spend a lot of time to get my flow just right in my tank and changing it would have a possible dramatic effect on some of my corals.

My emerald crabs are starting to run out of algae.
I just took this video. I think I’m going to start taking them out now. Your freaking me out….lol

yeah to the sump they go
or in my case the back chamber of my AIO
they have been the worst as far as eating coral goes, second in my list was a yellow clown goby who ate one of my hammers???? i thought they only nibble on sps here and there but sure enough ate a whole hammer, and lastly peppermints again they ate hammer coral
you’d think i would’ve learned my lesson by now with how many hammers and torches gone to poor livestock choice on my end
if i was QT rock i would definitely use the crabs and shrimp, but in a display never again
gonna have to resort to vibrant i think for my small bubble algae issue
