Hello friends,

Please don't grill me too much as I have not been very active in my fight against a (what I believe to be) red cyano. But after about a month of letting it go uncontrolled, I noticed that it went from the flowy, blanketing cyano that I've had in the past, to something more encrusting and has the appearance of goosebumps. Would love if anyone could confirm if this is a different strain that has started to outcompete or if its something else entirely? I haven't been able to find anything quite like this in any previous threads.

Thanks,
Sandy

Thanks for posting the beautiful picture. I have seen lots of Cyanobacteria mats and they don’t have a good union and they don’t have any good organization as maybe a sponge might?

It looks like a coral, is there a dead coral that is “encrusted” in a bacterial mat? It should easily blow off if it is, and if it does not then you likely have a sponge or something else that may also be invasive?

I know cyano, and I've never seen cyano texture up like that. @ISpeakForTheSeas , have you any guess what we're looking at?

No dead coral underneath, but I agree, it looks like coral, I really haven't seen anything quite like this.
