help identifying issue with torch

i recently got a torch with multiple heads. over the course of a few weeks the tentacles from two of the heads started to stop extending and slowly seemed to be dying. i removed them today but i noticed another one that was branched from one of the two has grey spots, brown matter and holes.

from another angle i could see there were these string looking things that were moving. to be safe i removed it.
any idea what this could have been?

Your issue is not the strings, it’s bacterial infection and as a result stress. There is also a cracked / sawed skeleton and damaged flesh band. That is an open wound allowing more bacteria in, and tearing when the tentacle rubs against the sharp skeleton.
