Hello,
I have started a new reef tank and I am about three weeks in.
I did something a bit out of the normal with this tank and decided to try to kickstart my cycle with some sand from an isolated beach (I couldn't help it, I am a micobiology researcher by trade). I love it as I have a 50% sand/coral mix. It worked wonders, as it could cycle in a high dose of ammonia to nitrate within the first week.
I didn't see much for life in it, other than the odd bug digging through the sand for the first couple weeks, but as soon as I added two turbo snails and a couple corals (gsp and zoas) and turned on the light, I have hundreds of tiny snails crawling everywhere. I was wondering if I could get some help identifying them.
I have attached a terrible drawing. I don't have a good enough camera to show them as they are tiny.
They have:
-Cone shaped shell
-Shell has a red tip
-Shell spirals through brown down to 2/3 of the cones length.
-The remainder of the shell is white/clearish
-The body seems to be purplish (but could be the light) and looks like a blob with two antennas
They actions are:
-Out during light
-Don't crawl out of the tank
-Seem to crawl on anything
-Avoid the corals and turbo snails.
Any help would be appreciated.
