Hi everyone this is a pic I took tonight. Tank has only been running for a week. All rock was scrubbed down in rodi before put in the tank. I did not soak any of it in bleach. All of the white rock in the tank has this white fiberous algae looking stuff on it. Not sure what I should do here. Please help me figure out what this is so I can get a course of action.

Running 1 week.
I’d do nothing but turn out the lights...not required yet.
You ain’t seen nothing yet.
Let’s get cycled first.
Then we will work on lowering nitrates.
Then will take the next 6 months to put all 8 water parameters in the range and ensure the least change possible, day in day out.
Ugly stages will occur. Not seen a new system with dry rock ever miss that stage.

In time your great water chemistry will make the tank stable, your bacteria population will be varied and in sufficient quantities, your testing will prove that.....and uglies will go away.

Hahahaha ohhh I know all about the ugly phases. This is currently my 2nd tank I have up and running. I’ve just never seen this before so early. Don’t know if I should pull the rock out and start over or just see what happens. I just don’t want to have issues down the road.

Assure you have adequate water flow as a fungus could form over surface
See if you can blow it loose with a turkey baster
If it doesn’t dissipate, you may have to scrub it with a toothbrush and peroxide

I have two mp40s blowing but they are sitting a bit higher to get some surface agitation. Should I move them lower in the tank ?

Looking at tank. Left 5” back and 5” down
Right 8” down and 10” back so that they’re staggered and creating a gyre effect

I should have mentioned it’s a 180 gallon so 24” deep. Still set them at those heights ? Appreciate the info

Yes- there should be some current at lower half of tank. If not, adjust little by little

Sorry, I can’t see anything...just new white rock...perhaps there’s something I can’t see.
I let nature take its course in the first couple of months.
Never had one system develop the same way.
I let them fight it out for a bit.

Thank you and also my lights are not on yet. I won’t turn them on for at least a month. I’m more worried that this rock had something on it prior to me putting it in my tank. I’d rather fix it now before I get live stock even if it means pulling the rock out.
