Last night I had one of my jebao powerhead go out. Now it lasted for 3 years maintenance free and only costed somewhere around $60. Now I’m looking for a new one but I’m so confused because even the best of the best have a lot of bad reviews. Do I go back with the cheap jebao or upgrade to a more costly one.

A $20-bill per year ($1.666666666 per month) towards your favorite hobby? (Lol) I’d stick with the cheap one that you liked— unless you are board with it, and just have an itch to try something new. Anyway, I have two of these— about the same price on Amazon (depending on size). Italian made, and seems like a good workhorse; they sell a controller for them too. I’ll probably be buying a third one— powerful magnet (I have 1/2” glass), and quiet. Best wishes!

The best of the best have bad reviews too because out of lets say 10000 units sold, 100 may have a problem and you will see posts about those 100 but you won't see the posts about the other 9900 units.
All in all I love my tunze's.

I am kind of all over the place with power heads....I have a Gyre 250, a ecotec qd60, a couple Jebao RW 8's and my newest addition is a AI Nero 5 which I actually like as it has a very low profile and moves a lot of water....but not really cheap... For the money the Jebao's do a decent job and have lasted me a few years with only periodic cleanings....AND...my challenge is my 3/4" thick glass and the Jebaos actually hold pretty good through it.

Yea I’m with you on the math it really does make the most sense to me! I guess they all have good and bad reviews but the $60 even if it just lasted a year. But odds are it will last 2-3 years. Still better than paying $300 for one that is gonna last how long a couple years....7 years? Who knows may not last as long as the jebaos. I’d feel pretty stupid paying $300 and it only last as long as my jebaos.
