i have roughly 50-60lbs of caribsea arag-alive fiji pink + natural reef sand. seems like a good mix. small particles but not small enough to get blasted away by my wavemakers and return pump.

the one you linked will give you roughly a little less than an inch of depth. should suffice with that single 40lb bag, or you can get a 40lb + 10lb.

I have Caribsea sand. I like the special grade sand perfect size and doesn’t blow all over.

Pre rinse it :)

I just add new special grade sand without rinse. I added slowly 1/3 bag per day, but didn’t rinse. My tank seem cloudy, but I have skimmer and 2 filter socks. My tank has sps, lps and 9 fishes. Should I expect a mini cycle. I concern my coral and fish die tomorrow

sometimes unrinsed sand clears in a day sometimes not.

rinsed sand from a bag, everyone loves.

if you want to pre rinse it the right way I’ll tell you how. Most won’t, they take those chances above. They look at the fifteen reefs above, see the devastation, look down at the bag of sand that says don’t rinse, they follow that direction without variation, what’s written on a plastic bag is the rule of the universe, the fifteen reefs above plus the two hundred more we have on file don’t matter. They post a pic of their tank, which doesn’t represent those fifteen above or the two hundred more we have as cloud wipe examples. You will place unrinsed sand in your tank because that’s destiny, the top links above don’t matter.

You probably need at least 40lbs, maybe 50 or 60 after your rocks. For my recently setup 125 I used 5 bags of various "live" sand and one bag of crushed coral. I washed the crushed coral for about 45 minutes. The live sand I dumped in without washing. It says do not wash, so I didnt.
Mayne I got lucky. Here's a pic of my 125, 24 hours after filling.
