I got a BTA today. Temp acclimated for a couple hours, then drip acclimated (1 drop/second) for about 2.5 hours. Temp acclimated again for about 30 minutes then put it in.

Ammonia:0
Nitrites:0
Nitrates:7
Salinity: 1.026
pH: 8.2

I’ve never had an anemone do this before so I’m really confused. Is it possibly dying? It was healthy while temp acclimating the second time, tentacles even out more than in the pics.

Yea the foot is fine. It was given to me in a flower pot that it had been in for a while. Okay I’ll wait to see what happens. Thanks

Allow to acclimate. They do their little exchange with new tank and adjustment to new conditions.

verify salinity. Should be 1.024-1.025. You may be getting a false reading. Calibrate unit or even have a trusted store test and verify for you.
Temp range 77-79 and ph 8.1-8.3
Check also for high nitrates. Below is a chart for ranges for you to monitor

I calibrated using Aquacraft’s 35ppt calibration fluid. And I get a reading of 1.025 in my tank.
I have 2 thermometers and they both say 78°
I’ll go out and get a different pH test kit to see. But my current one says 8.2

Sorry for your troubles Tristan, but I believe the problem is that your tank is too new. Your water parameters may be perfect, but the system needs to mature. I’d wait 6 months before adding a nem.

I suppose, but in other tanks I’ve set up, I’ve put anemones in at around the same time and they’ve done just fine.

Bta are like tanks. Just keep up the water changes and testing and it should battle back. Just leave it alone in a nice spot with not too high of flow and good lighting.

I had the exact same thing with my RBTA. I added it after 2 months of cycling, and it went through a pretty rough time. Mine did make it and is doing fantastic right now. I hope yours will pull through as well!

Or have an LFS check for you and to compare readings

They take a while to get used to their new home. I found they hate chemical treatments, Chemiclean and Vibrant made them retreat heavily. Due to this i really use just good water changes and mechanical removal... My BTA is really happy now. Hope this helps, it just takes time.

I switched my salt mix and it started to get better but it was too late. I was originally using some Red Sea coral pro salt I had that had been half used and in the bucket for a while. It hardened into a solid block and I had to break it up. When I mixed it, it would always create a lot of precipitate but my alk, cal, and pH levels were fine
