I am about to put an Aqueon 120 on my stand. The stand is exactly 48" x 24". The Aqueon 120 is 48 1/2" x 24 1/2". Would it be structurally sound if I build a frame out of 2x4s on their sides that run the perimeter of the stand but overhang 1/4"?

I thought this might be easier than getting a giant sheet of plywood and having to cut it to those dimensions. Plus, I wouldn't have to cut out holes in plywood for the overflow boxes.

Hi welcome to the forum! I build a Lot of stands and I would absolutely recommend you use a single sheet of 3/4" plywood. you'd have 1/4" overage on either side which isn't too much. I'm guessing g part of the black trim will still sit over the end panels.

Thanks for the reply! The trouble is getting a sheet of plywood that is 48 1/2" by 24 1/2". I know Home Depot has giant sheets of plywood that I could cut myself, but I'm unsure of how to get such a large piece back home. I doubt they'd cut it in store due to their arbitrary size restrictions
