In my experience the rio pumps work well for a long time. I did however replace all ac with dc pumps. I feel like less electrical current in the salt water is better for my safety and the animals nerves too. Also, dc have controlers and that will help you “tune” the skimmer. And on top of that most have “feed” timers/functions that turn off the skimmer for dosing or feeding, which i find very very helpful. (An overflowing skimmer is never good, and removing aminos before they are available is a waste)

as i recall the rio had a venturi after the impeller, which is not very efficient. Most pumps now pull air i to the I impeller to get “chopped” into smaller bubbles better for skimming
